THE TOA: COMBINE WITH THE TOA FOR A COMPLETE PICTURE

TOA tests allow you to measure the level of language proficiency at each stage of your NT2 student’s learning trajectory. Language proficiency growth is a slow process, so be sure to gather sufficient evidence before you decide to use a test. The TOA, our online testing system with over 950 tests, contains tests for intake, progress and completion for every language level and for all skills.

All skills

The TOA contains tests for reading, listening, writing and conversation skills at levels A1 through C1. Speaking tests are available starting at B1. Both level tests and combination tests are available. The placement tests measure at one level. The combination tests measure at two levels, e.g. Dutch Reading A1-A2. There are also special tests for young people (recognizable by the letter J in the test name) and for persons integrating (recognizable by the abbreviation OGO from Education, Health and Education or W from Work). The TOA also contains Dutch language tests at levels 0F to 4F, linked to the Language Reference Framework.

Forecaster

If you do not yet know the level of your NT2 learner, you can use the pre-assessment. This provides a rough estimate of the level of the NT2 learner and, if desired, can immediately link a suitable follow-up test in reading or listening. The TOA then automatically prepares the test.

Study Skills

With the study skills test, you can gain insight into which study skills your NT2 learner is proficient in and which he still needs to work on. Skills covered include alphabetical ordering, reading diagrams, categorizing information and interpreting drawings.

Language Learning

Should you choose to do the intake digitally, the TOA also includes a test of language learnability. The language proficiency test focuses on a number of underlying skills that facilitate language learning. This provides information about the speed at which the student will be able to learn a language, allowing you to know which pathway best suits the student. A slow or fast language skills pathway or something in between. This test is similar to the Learnability test from the INT2 and the Intake Instrument EOA.
