For your work
Many companies have their headquarters located in Germany. It’s quite possible that you have a large number of German colleagues with whom you may come into contact sooner or later. Learning their language in advance is certainly not a luxury.
Moreover, Germany is one of our most important trading partners. Successful business is dependent on many factors, but being able to address clients in their own language gives you a definite advantage.
On holiday
German is spoken not only in Germany but also in Austria, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Switzerland, and even in parts of northern Italy and eastern Belgium.
Your holiday will definitely gain added value when you can engage in a “real” conversation with the locals. So why not pack a little German in your suitcase next time? You’ll surely enjoy interesting connections and receive many compliments!
It’s the 3rd most spoken native language
German is the most widely spoken mother tongue in Europe. Nearly 100 million Europeans learn it as their first language. Among these 100 million are around 70,000 Belgians, which we often tend to forget. In our own Eastern Cantons, German is also spoken.
